AOLR Weekly Wrap-Up #5

The TCA’s 2009 Summer Press Tour draws to an end today! Here’s what’s of interest from this bi-annual event:

• The two must-read articles covering the Three Rivers press conference on July 31st are by Will Harris/Premium Hollywood and Rob Owen/Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. They give a good behind-the-scenes impression and contain some great quotes from the cast, especially Alex O’Loughlin.
• Rob Owen also wrote in another TCA-related article, “Our Three Rivers coverage, particularly on this blog, often serves as catnip to Alex O’Loughlin fans, helping to drive up hits to the web site.” Which I guess says it all about Alex O’Loughlin fans!
• Here’s a selection of the cutest/funniest Twitter tweets from some journalists present at the Three Rivers press conference (best read from the bottom up). Of course, Alex charmed the ladies present ;-):
  

  Kate OH – FYI, Alex O’Loughlin will be playing some rugby in Three Rivers, as he has done in life. It is a gentlemen’s game played by ruffians.
  Kate OH – At the 3 Rivers set, Alfre Woodard admits to being “freaked out” hearing Alex O’Loughllin talk in his normal Aussie accent.
  Kate OH – Currently on the Three Rivers set in LA–no, it’s not shooting primarily in Pittsburgh, but will do some filming there.
  Kate OH – Apparently.as a child in Australia, Alex O’Loughlin loved the show “Monkey Magic” and can do a lively rendition of the theme.
  Kate OH – To explain further. a group of reporters had a lunch with Alex O’Loughlin of CBS’ Three Rivers. He’s charming & funny.
  Kate OH – Just had lunch with Alex O’Loughlin…who sang the Monkey Magic theme. Very cute.
  TVGuideMagEIC – Just had lunch with Alex O’Loughlin. Adorable! He said his fave shows are The A-Team and something called Monkey Magic. He sang the theme!
  writerchica – Alex O’Loughlin sang for a group of ladies of the press the theme song of ‘Monkey Magic,’ his favorite kid’s show. Wish I’d brought my cam.
  writerchica – Alex O’Loughlin still joking about his tight scrubs. Says they wear them on “Star Trek.” They’re gone, confirms producer.
  writerchica – Alex O’Loughlin made fun of his tight scrubs, which you won’t see him wearing in the revised pilot. We can confirm he looked hot!
  TheTVShowGirl – Alex O’Loughlin just joked that learning about the medical profession has made acting seem boring: “I should’ve been a doctor!”
  HitFixDaniel -  “Damn those Buddhists.” – Alex O’Loughlin (joking) when it’s mentioned that Shinto Buddhism forbids organ donation.

• One reason that Alfre Woodward signed on for the part of Dr. Sophia Jordan in Three Rivers is Alex. She confessed to TV Guide Magazine, “I heard so much about Alex, what a lovely man he is, besides being a really good actor.”
• CBS has released some Three Rivers cast photos, set photos, photos from the TCA press conference as well as a press package. Additionally, an HQ poster and banner surfaced on a Russian site. Check them out in the Three Rivers album in the gallery and the TCA album.
• Alex also attended the CBS, CW and Showtime All-Star Party at the Huntington Library in Pasadena, California on August 3rd. You can view photos of his arrival at the event in the gallery. Rick Bentley, who covered the bash for the Fresno Beehive, wrote: “I asked O’Loughlin, the star of the new CBS series Three Rivers, if he has talked to any of the fans who were upset when his former CBS series Moonlight was canceled after only one year. He had. The fans told him they were very upset. Then O’Loughlin smiled and said, ‘How do you think I felt?’”

• There’s a new Whiteout poster available – I’ve added it to the Whiteout poster album.
• There’s also a scan from the feature “First Look – An Early Peek at Some of Hollywood’s Coolest Projects” in last week’s Entertainment Weekly about The Back-Up Plan. It’s not a huge article, but still worth a mention!
