AOLR Weekly Wrap-Up #40

As things appear to be settling down again, I think it’s safe to switch back to weekly wrap-ups, so here are the latest updates for The Back-up Plan, Hawaii Five-0 and more!

The Back-up Plan articles:

  • The Canadian Globe and Mail published a great article that included an interview with Alex. He talks about The Back-up Plan and about Hawaii Five-0 (yes, Len Wiseman did direct!). Check out the excerpt below and the scan in the gallery:

That kind of recalibration of one’s ego is a constant in L.A., and O’Loughlin has the perspective to know it. “I’ve got a great life here,” he said, birds chirping in the background. “Just now I’m sitting in my rose garden in the sun; I’ve got a beautiful little house in West Hollywood. Los Angeles is a big, sprawling city, and it took me a number of years to find my niche, to know where to do my grocery shopping and where to get good coffee. In Sydney, you walk out the front door to get the newspaper, and you bump into all sorts of people. Not here. It can be a lonely town, but I’ve been here a while and I love it.”

It doesn’t hurt that O’Loughlin has a delightfully macho project on tap: He’s set to star as Detective Steve McGarrett in an updated version of Hawaii Five-O, the long-running 1970s TV series. “McGarrett is now a Navy SEAL who comes back to the island on a personal mission of vengeance, and gets an offer he can’t refuse to run a private task force,” O’Loughlin said. “It’s contemporary in every way. Len Wiseman, who directed Live Free or Die Hard, directed the pilot. And the creators have really cool, edgy, taste. They’re not scared to push the boundaries, use good music and set and clothing designers.”

  • A new junket video Alex and Jennifer at Tribute.ca – the talk is about cravings and having kids!
  • A Sky News interview with Jennifer: YouTube.
  • Red carpet interviews with the cast (including Alex) and Alan at the Westwood premiere: YouTube.

Other Back-up Plan updates:

  • Weekend domestic box office estimate: $7.2 million ($22.9 million cumulative).
  • Two more reviews: The Friday Flyer and The A&T Register.

Gallery additions:

  • Several gorgeous MQs from Alex’s LA Times photoshoot at the Hollywood Roosevelt have been added to the gallery. A big thanks to Kelly for sharing these!
  • Some candids surfaced of Alex signing autographs outside Jimmy Kimmel Live, wearing what appears to be the outfit he wore for the LA Times photoshoot.

Hawaii Five-0 updates:

  • An excerpt from Variety’s article Network Pilots Pick Up Steam hints at a probable pick up for our soon-to-be favorite TV show:

As always, a few projects have enjoyed heat throughout the development derby. NBC is said to be putting out feelers for staff writers on its redo of “The Rockford Files,” which is a good sign the Peacock sees that pilot as a go, and “The Chase,” an actioner about federal marshals tracking down fugitives from the Bruckheimer TV shop. CBS’ new spin on “Hawaii Five-O” is also said to be scouting for staffers.

  • Daniel Dae Kim will be on Jimmy Kimmel Live on May 6th!
  • The guys at Saber Ops posted some pictures from the Kualoa Ranch set on their website.
  • The IMDb MovieMeter for Hawaii Five-0 is up by 52% this week.
  • Several articles appeared recently about Norman Reedus having been part of the Hawaii Five-0 pilot:

“I’m a bad guy, and I die in the pilot. Or do I?,” says Norman, who has also appeared in such feature flicks as American Gangster and The Notorious Bettie Page. “I probably pop up like mid-season again—like, did he die or did he not die? You don’t see me die; you see me dying so in the world of television it’s like, ‘Did he really die?’”

  • TV Squad speculates on which current CBS shows may be axed to make room for the new crop… including Hawaii Five-0: “Seven CBS Shows on the Bubble“.
  • A post on the Roswell fan site Crashdown.com referring to William Sadler, who plays Steve McGarrett’s dad in the pilot:

On the official Bill Board, William wrote that he won’t be a regular on the show “Now before you all get your pu pu platters in a bunch, I’m not a regular on the show. I play Alex’s dad so I may come back from time to time but I won’t be booking any Dannos on a regular basis. I wish it were otherwise but there you have it.”

Other items:

  • Cro at Cro Customs posted a message of congratulations to Alex on his blog!
  • A Three Rivers promo that aired on SET in South-East Asia was posted on YouTube; the focus is on Daniel Henney, but it includes some scenes with Andy from the unaired episodes.

That’s it for now – I don’t think that I have forgotten anything major…

Have a great week!

Thank you Mizz. I completely agree with Skylar. I don’t know how you have time to find all these fascinating articles, interviews, videos and photos of Alex O’Loughlin. I hope that The Back Up Plan will continue to do better each week, especially with the film being released in Europe, soon Latin America, Asia and Australia. I’m certain that TBUP’s box office ticket sales will exceed the $35 million budget in the next several weeks. I do hope that Three Rivers’ 5 unaired new episodes will be shown during the summer months in the U.S.A. The CBS’ television Upfront presentation on May 19th is coming soon. I hope and pray that CBS will approve Hawaii Five-O for the new fall 2010 television season. It would be the best news for Alex, his cast and crew and of course all of his fans worldwide. Thank you for all you do for us Alex’s devoted fans!
