It’s been a pretty gloomy week for us all and although in the grand scheme of things it won’t make a blip, it’s still hard to swallow that once again we have to exercise a lot of patience before Alex O’Loughlin is back on our screens (big or small), not to mention that we are all concerned about his well-being. At least the latest pictures, taken on Thursday, after the cancellation of Three Rivers, are somewhat reassuring!
- According to various Tweets, cast and crew are currently filming the final episode of the show and will be done shooting mid December. Nicki Schultz, a prolific tweeter and member of the production, posted a picture of herself and Amber Clayton at the studio, taken on Amber’s last day on the show: http://twitpic.com/rx2fg.
- If you’re still puzzled about why they would film the remaining episodes of Three Rivers despite the cancellation, then the recent announcement that Sony’s cable channel in Asia (Sony Entertainment Television) will be airing the show in 2010 may help explain that decision. Cancelled freshman shows have been sold to overseas markets before (remember that one little show, Moonlight?
) and it’s likely that Three Rivers will show up on more networks. New Zealand’s commercial station TV3 has programming deals with US networks, including CBS Paramount Television and Three Rivers was included in their new season line-up announcement in October and it appears from a forum that Hong Kong’s TVB Pearl also intends to air the show next year. - You will have noticed that Three Rivers has been removed from the People’s Choice Awards voting site. Unfortunately, only shows that are still being aired during the voting period are eligible for an award, which is why we can no longer vote for TR.
- Of the many posts that we’ve seen about the cancellation of Three Rivers, here’s one that’s worth mentioning. It’s not by an “official” critic, which is probably why this guy makes sense
: Alex O’Loughlin in Three Rivers Canceled Again? - A message posted on Glenn Matsuki’s blog from Donate Life Hollywood’s Campaign Director:
From Donate Life Hollywood: I think it would be meaningful to Alex and to CBS to hear from the Donate Life community. CBS extended an unprecedented partnership to Donate Life and we have benefited tremendously from that partnership. You can forward me your thoughts and notes via email and I will package them together for Alex, CBS, and the Three Rivers writers.
Very sincerely,
Tenaya Wallace

On to other news:
- As you will have noticed, a beautiful one-sheet for The Back-up Plan was released recently! I have added an HQ to the gallery, but if you would like a bigger version, please submit a contact form or email me and I will send you a larger file.
- If you have been following the distribution news for The Back-up Plan, you may have noticed that all countries were covered with the exception of Canada. That part of the distribution puzzle too is now complete, as Alliance has struck a 3-year deal with CBS Films and will handle all their releases in Canada through 2012.
- Alex is #11 on Buddy TV’s 100 Sexiest Men of 2009:
Still hot from his beloved stint on Moonlight, O’Loughlin put on a pair of scrubs to become the next George Clooney or McDreamy. While Three Rivers isn’t exactly burning up the ratings, the thought of O’Loughlin saving a life is all the fire we need.
- Here’s one lucky lady who received a personalized signed photo from our favorite Aussie: An Old Vamp Favorite: Alex O’Loughlin.
- Whiteout will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in January 2010! It will be available in the USA from January 19th and in the UK from January 25th. The US DVD will only have additional scenes as extras whereas the Blu-ray disc will also contain:
- The Coldest Thriller Ever Story- Kate Beckinsale and others brave disintegrating sets, gale-force winds and -65° lunch hours
- Freeze Frame: From Page to Screen – The chronicle of a legendary graphic novel’s journey
- A digital copy of the film.
The UK DVD, however, will contain both featurettes as well as the trailer and deleted scenes. Many thanks to Bianca for this information!

Hi MizzoH,
My brother is doing great, which is amazing, because he was very ill for 2 years before the organs became available. The advances in transplant medicine are incredible, which has to be shown and TR did wonderfully. We are lucky down here in Colombia to have great doctors and two important transplant centers.
And yes, the pressure from ratings isn’t as important in all countries as it is in the US. I’m sure our cable channels need the viewership, but they don’t measure it in tens of millions!! I keep my fingers crossed. Right now the Uchannel is in epi. 6 last Wednesday and showing it repeatedly before the next one comes!! ??
I completely agree with you Maureen, Three Rivers never had a real oprtunidad by CBS, from the beginning things went wrong.
Even before starting to broadcast had bad reviews about this series, its release was delayed and was completely re-recorded the pilot episode, after the announcement ,and even have seen pictures of it yet never aired, and for that reason no longer was at the gala presentation of CBS, like other programs.
Start of the broadcasting of the second episode, and continuing with the first was a big mistake, improper persons allegedly responsible, and the day and time of broadcast, was appeared chosen for that it not had any chance, worst impossible, in direct competition with a series of huge success as Desperate Housewifes, and with the sports star on Sunday.
Finally, the scripts did not meet the expectatives it had created and had too much medical drama and too little, detail of the life of the main characters, just when as they had begun to change things and the plot was beginning to be really interesting, in direct reference to Andy and his dark past, CBS decides to try a schedule change just the weekend of delivery of the American Music Awards, the result, of course, was not favorable, as a result of all this, they only communicate an immediate deprogramming, after having seen the promo of episode 9 scheduled for 6th of December, they let us without see the five remaining episodes and there is not even scheduled date of return, which suggests that we not even see them, unless be in Dvd.
If with all these facts it can say that CBS has supported Three Rivers and Alex’s career, I do not understand anything.
I only hope that this time has learned the lesson and their next project, if you have to be on CBS, is something that guarantees commercial success it deserves much more than others and not involving an effort and sacrifice so great in preparation as in this case, a sacrifice and dedication which, of course CBS has not valued or appreciated at any time.
I hope that Alex have a happy holidays in his homeland and with his family, to help you relax and recover from this setback and come back very soon with new energy, enthusiasm and a great project as he so deserves.
By the way, someone else has heard of a new pilot that would have given to him CBS, for the character of a father with two teenage children?
I just hope this is not confirme, I think Alex needs to play a great character of action.
As always, thank you very much mizzoH, by the magnificent and complet report, and Claudia for your information, unfortunately here in Spain are being broadcast Trauma and Mercy, but about Three Rivers nothing.
I apologize for this extra long comment, but I think I needed to say all this.
Thank you to all.
Thank you MizzoH for your weekly wrap up. I believe that extremely gifted and charismatic Alex O’Loughlin deserves a leading role on a successful and long running crime drama on CBS, if he is still under contract with this network. Three Rivers and its fantastic cast did not get a fair chance to prove themselves and tell the inspiring characters’ stories with a difficult and unwanted Sunday night’s time slow, always getting delayed due to football overtime.
I love your wrap-ups, MizzoH. Thanks SO much. Sad news are mixed with good, so we have to keep being hopeful for our wonderful guy. His star must shine to its fullest really soon.
Just for everybody’s info., TR is being shown in all of Latinamerica on the Universal Cable Channel, and we are hoping to be the first international fans to see all of the series. Help us crossing fingers. We’ll tell everybody if that happens…
I have already written to Tenaya Wallace. I not only praised the show and what it has achieved as a motivator for a wonderful, necessary cause; I also told the story of my own brother’s double transplant 4 months ago and how TR has helped me through fearful times. It’s amazing to realize what a suposedly failed show has done. I actually think Alex and the show have been quite successful in what really matters.
Thank you for sharing this, Claudia. I hope your brother is doing well and of course, that you guys will get to see all the episodes! Luckily, ratings are not the priority everywhere the way they (unfortunately) are in the US and they shouldn’t reflect the quality of a show nor how it impacts viewers. In Holland, where I live, if a show is purchased, it gets aired, and the whole concept of ratings and especially how they dominate the way networks operate is foreign and quite frankly, surreal.
