Alex O’Loughlin is Donate Life Hollywood’s Person of the Year! He was present at the cocktail party at the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills last night where he was announced as the winner. In his acceptance speech Alex admitted that he was unprepared and that he was “really lost for words” and “deeply humbled.”
I’ve attempted to transcribe Alex’s speech from the video of that Glenn Matsuki made and posted on his Donate Life Organ & Tissue Donation Blog, but as there is a lot of background noise, I have undoubtedly left out bits and pieces and misunderstood some parts (sorry Alex!):
“I’m really lost for words. It’s a great honor to be here. I’m not even prepared because I was thinking… I’m deeply humbled to be among all of you, especially the other fine gentlemen who have been nominated for this award.
“You know, when I was 17 and I got my driver’s license and I stamped the thing …. the right thing to do and I thought it would make me more popular with girls. I didn’t really know what that meant or anything about it. And when I read the script for ‘Three Rivers’ it became so apparent to me that maybe we could do something on top of the TV show…. That’s what led to my relationship with Tenaya and Donate Life America. We got together and formulated a plan and got to put it into action. You could find me any day whilst I wasn’t shooting in my trailer tearing scripts apart… I don’t know what else to say, but thank you so much, this means the world to me… Unfortunately ‘Three Rivers’ came to a close. We actually made thirteen episodes and five are yet to air and they will… they will air.
“‘Three Rivers’ may have been laid to rest, but my support for this cause and this incredible organization has certainly not. Thank you all very much.”
Many thanks to Glenn for the video and congratulations to Alex – you deserve it!
Also check out the video of last night’s reception; Alex appears many times from approximately 3:08 onwards! HQ images have also been added to the gallery.

Congratulations Alex for this award, you really do deserve this recognition. Alex inspired me to become an organ donor although I was unable to do this I persuaded most of my colleagues and family too, this is a world wide problem and I think with more people like Alex, with his enthusiasm and energy we would reduce the waiting lists, so again THANK YOU ALEX XXXXX
