In January 2008, thanks to over 10 million viewers’ votes, Moonlight won the People’s Choice Award 2008 in the category “Favorite New TV Drama”. The show was in a forced hiatus at the time because of the writers’ strike that lasted from November 5, 2007 till February 12, 2008. Alex O’Loughlin was in Australia when he was informed of the win and was clearly over the moon about it in his acceptance speech.
“I’m so incredibly happy. I feel so privileged to be a part of this show in the first place and having to stop it at 12 episodes because of the writers’ strike and stuff has been really frustrating, but to even be considered for this award was thrilling to me because it’s not about a panel of judges. It’s about our fans, it’s about all you people that watch the show. It’s about the people, the people voting. I found out today that we’ve had over 10 million votes, which is incomprehensible to me and I’m just really, really thrilled and I’m so, so happy to accept this award.”
You can view his entire speech in the video. It’s very Alex in the sense that it comes straight from the heart. And it’s very bittersweet to know what we know now…
There are two additional related videos you can enjoy – they also feature Alex. This is one in which nominees reveal their favorite music.
And in the last video, nominees share with us their favorite category picks.
