“Hawaii Five-0″ Update – 02/27/10

High time for the latest updates, rumors and articles about Hawaii Five-0:

  • As THR reported yesterday, the latest actor to join the cast is the lovely Grace Park (Battlestar Galactica, The Cleaner, The Border). She will be playing Chin Ho Kelly’s niece, Kono Kalakaua, who is fresh out of the police academy and is recruited to the Hawaii Five-0 team by Steve McGarrett.
  • It appears that Michael Muhney did not get the role of Danno Williams, as he will be attending a Starfury convention in London and it was announced yesterday that fans can bid on eBay for a dinner with him on March 13.
  • At least two other actors who are/were interested in the Danno role are the English actor Danny Dyer and the Irish actor Peter O’Meara. Personally, I would be very pleased if Michael Shanks comes out as the winner…
  • Filming the pilot on Oahu was apparently initially scheduled to start on March 8 and then was pushed back to March 15, but it now appears to be March 8 again.
  • The shoot is expected to take around 17 days to complete.
  • The production office for the pilot is said to have been installed in the Kalia Tower at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
  • Among the actresses named as possibles for the role of the Governor of Hawaii are Demi Moore, Tia Carrere and Kelly Hu. The latter recently joined the cast of The Odds, however.
  • The original theme (composed by Morton Stevens) will apparently also be used for the new show, although an updated version would not be out of place.
  • With Len Wiseman on board as the director, the pilot is expected to include a lot of action scenes and the sides also point in that direction.
  • The source for some of the above information is entertainment writer Tim Ryan’s blog: Tim Ryan’s Reel Hawaii. Check it out for more info and some spoilers!
  • Primetime ratings reporter Rick Kissell at Variety has made some fall time slot predictions for the networks, including CBS:
  • Success of “Undercover Boss” limits the net’s number of available hours to just a few — one of them the potential lead-out for “Boss” on Sunday, which could be “Cold Case” or — gasp — even “CSI.”

Net may be thinking of bumping “CSI” and sliding “The Mentalist” down to 9 p.m. on Thursdays (note that the Eye is trying the soph skein there during the Olympics), allowing it to serve as a lead-in for something like the “Criminal Minds” spinoff.

Solid Tuesday newbie “The Good Wife” makes more sense on Friday behind “Medium,” making room for a more male, action hour like “Hawaii Five-0″ or “The Odds” behind the “NCIS” combo on Tuesday.

Marc Berman at Mediaweek also shares his thoughts on the scheduling options:

Since CBS has reduced the episode order on Numb3rs, a renewal is unlikely. And I have little faith in upcoming replacement Miami Medical, which opens April 2 and does not sound like the best option to end the workweek. While CBS could live with Ghost Whisperer and compatible Medium for another season, it should find something new to anchor the evening. With a spin-off of Criminal Minds and a revival of classic Hawaii Five-O in the works, the built-in branding could be beneficial for Friday.

  • Here’s what Daniel Dae Kim – our new Chin Ho Kelly – had to say to New York Magazine recently on being able to remain in Hawaii:
  • You’re attached to the new Hawaii Five-O pilot. Unless there’s a Magnum P.I. remake in the works, that sounds like your best shot at staying in Hawaii …
My family has really grown to love it here. And I have a couple of children that have established themselves over the past six years. As a dad, I want to give them as much continuity as possible. And let’s face it: Being asked to live in paradise is not necessarily a tough call. I also have to take care of things like my career. Maybe I’ll be in a position where I can have my cake and eat it, too.

Very interesting, the filming starts on March 8, that is a week from now, wow, and no word who will play Danno! My favorite is also Michael Shanks, he is a great actor and did an amazing job as Daniel Jackson on SG1, I believe he and Alex would have the right chemistry on screen! Tuesdays would be a perfect night for the show, fingers crossed!
Thanks mizzoH for the updates, not much time before Alex head to Hawaii, I hope he will blog us before!! :heart2:

I love your updates mizz….. thanks so much! I do agree about a super hot man wearing glasses……. it just drives me out of my mind. Of course when it comes to Alex that is a VERY short trip!

I am so looking forward to seeing him in Hawaii 5-0…… he will be just wonderful! I do wish we would hear from the man himself as in a blog. But, I imagine he is in Hawaii getting himself ready, as least that is what I imagine! :heat:

I think it’s too early for the principals to be there already, joyco… and with the current tsunami warning, I sincerely hope that he is not.

Fingers crossed that no one gets hurt and that the damage caused will be minimal on the islands.

Thank you MizzoH for the thorough weekly updates, as usual. I’m so excited and anxious to hear more great news on additional casting for Hawaii Five-O. Alex will be superb and perfect as Lt. Commander/detective Steve McGarrett on Hawaii Five-O. I will post additional comments at some of these media links in support for Alex on this new crime drama. Thanks again. :yahoo:  :good:

Thanks for the updates Mizz! I think Grace Park is an excellent addition to the cast and I look forward to watching her. I am not familiar with the actors mentioned for Danno but will take your word that Michael Shanks would be an excellent fit. Did you choose him because you first saw a picture of him wearing glasses? :giggle:
I hope we get some great pictures during production! :D
