AOLR Weekly Wrap-Up #32

The Back-up Plan updates:

  • The date of the premiere for The Back-up Plan has been changed from April 20 to April 21. The venue is still Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. This does not affect the release date for the movie, which is still April 23.
  • Jennifer Lopez hosted last night’s Saturday Night Live and it was the second highest rated SNL of the season! You can judge for yourself how she did at NBC.com.
  • According to MediaPost, CBS Films will be advertising The Back-up Plan during the telecast of the Oscars on March 7!
  • There is now also an official UK Facebook page for The Back-up Plan.
  • CBS Films has released a new featurette from The Back-up Plan and there’s some great bantering between Alex and Jennifer! You can find screencaps of Alex in the gallery.
  • The French and Taiwanese versions of the international movie poster have been added to the gallery.

Other items:

  • According to the CAB’s 2010 upfront calendar, CBS will be announcing their shows for the 2010-2011 season on Wednesday, May 19 in New York City. Of course we expect Hawaii Five-0 to be among the series that will be picked up!
  • “At lunch with my mate Alex O’Loughlin. Always good to hang with genuine people in this industry. There’s a reason why they keep working! ;)” is what David Blue (Moonlight‘s Logan Griffen) tweeted last Monday. He then of course received requests for a photo (we’re so predictable!). Both gentlemen kindly obliged and you can view the image on David’s website. Judging from Alex’s position, he is the one activating the shutter (another one of his handy skills is the ability to take great pictures of himself with camera phones  ). Please don’t repost the picture anywhere – thanks!
  • On Friday, February 26, The VRO hosted interviews with Trevor Munson and David Blue. You can listen to the recordings at Blog Talk Radio.
  • I’ve added 275 caps of Alex from Whiteout to the gallery and I’ve also replaced the previous featurette caps. These were taken off the Blu-ray disk, so the quality is pretty good and the caps themselves are nice and BIG!
  • As someone requested the poetry reading deleted scene from FEED, I’ve posted it on YouTube. In this sequence, Michael reads The Fly by William Blake to Deidre.
  • Additional promo pictures from FEED have been added to the gallerybig thanks to anagogic!

Articles of interest:

  • Aussie soap Neighbours writer and script editor Jane Allen spent three months behind-the-scenes with CSI last year. The article about her LA experience, Learning the Craft LA Style mentions that she also met up with Alex while she was there:
  • She visited her friend, Australian actor Alex O’Loughlin, on the set of his new – and, as it turned out, short-lived – series, Three Rivers, and discovered that ”Entourage is a documentary” as she watched the star’s personal support crew swing into attentive action around him.

  • Our Alex is also getting mentioned in articles that aren’t even about him. Here’s a particularly amusing one posted by TVSquad:
  • In what was probably the toughest pilot season casting decision yet, the choice of actor to play Jim Rockford has gone to… Dermot Mulroney. Yes, that’s right. Dermot Mulroney will star in the remake of ‘The Rockford Files.’ And, no, Alex O’Loughlin was not the first choice. Kidding! Just kidding!

AOLR Weekly Wrap-Up #26

Just a short update for this week!

  • The Show Patrol blog has named Alex O’Loughlin their Shirtless Man of the Week and there’s a great slideshow to enjoy (grab a cold drink first!): Show Patrol.
  • With the recent release of Ethan Hawke’s Daybreakers as an excuse ;-), TV Guide has posted a photo gallery of the Sexiest TV & Movie Vampires and of course they included our Mick St. John!
  • Michael Abernethy at PopMatters has included Alex in his review of The Best TV Performances in 2009. Considering there are thousands of actors who don’t rate a mention, it’s great that Alex does:

Alex O’Loughlin has charm, but he can’t catch a break. After being the vampire du jour on the short-lived Moonlight, he struck out again as a doctor on Three Rivers this fall. In between, though, he turned in an eerie performance as an obsessive-compulsive serial killer on Criminal Minds.

  • CRO has posted another blog about Alex’s motorbike with pictures (NOT of Alex ;-)): Sporty.
  • As the press conference for Harrison Ford’s Extraordinary Measures took place on January 8 (release date is January 22), it’s reasonable to expect that the press conference for The Back-up Plan will be held early April! (Thanks to Nadioz for this tidbit!)
  • Don’t forget: the Whiteout DVD & Blu-ray will be released in the US on January 19th and in the UK on January 25th! You won’t be able to catch the movie on NetFlix until mid February as Warner Bros. and NetFlix have recently agreed that WB movies won’t be available on NetFlix until 28 days after the DVD release.
  • I’ve added 2 “new old” pictures of Alex from the Speed Racer premiere in 2008 to the gallery: 1 and 2.

AOLR Weekly Wrap-Up #22

tbup-r200709-14It’s been a pretty gloomy week for us all and although in the grand scheme of things it won’t make a blip, it’s still hard to swallow that once again we have to exercise a lot of patience before Alex O’Loughlin is back on our screens (big or small), not to mention that we are all concerned about his well-being. At least the latest pictures, taken on Thursday, after the cancellation of Three Rivers, are somewhat reassuring!

  • According to various Tweets, cast and crew are currently filming the final episode of the show and will be done shooting mid December. Nicki Schultz, a prolific tweeter and member of the production, posted a picture of herself and Amber Clayton at the studio, taken on Amber’s last day on the show: http://twitpic.com/rx2fg.
  • If you’re still puzzled about why they would film the remaining episodes of Three Rivers despite the cancellation, then the recent announcement that Sony’s cable channel in Asia (Sony Entertainment Television) will be airing the show in 2010 may help explain that decision. Cancelled freshman shows have been sold to overseas markets before (remember that one little show, Moonlight? confused smileys) and it’s likely that Three Rivers will show up on more networks. New Zealand’s commercial station TV3 has programming deals with US networks, including CBS Paramount Television and Three Rivers was included in their new season line-up announcement in October and it appears from a forum that Hong Kong’s TVB Pearl also intends to air the show next year.
  • You will have noticed that Three Rivers has been removed from the People’s Choice Awards voting site. Unfortunately, only shows that are still being aired during the voting period are eligible for an award, which is why we can no longer vote for TR.
  • Of the many posts that we’ve seen about the cancellation of Three Rivers, here’s one that’s worth mentioning. It’s not by an “official” critic, which is probably why this guy makes sense war smileys: Alex O’Loughlin in Three Rivers Canceled Again?
  • A message posted on Glenn Matsuki’s blog from Donate Life Hollywood’s Campaign Director:

From Donate Life Hollywood: I think it would be meaningful to Alex and to CBS to hear from the Donate Life community. CBS extended an unprecedented partnership to Donate Life and we have benefited tremendously from that partnership. You can forward me your thoughts and notes via email and I will package them together for Alex, CBS, and the Three Rivers writers.

    Very sincerely,

    Tenaya Wallace
    Campaign Director, Donate Life Hollywood
    Communications Specialist, OneLegacy

On to other news:

  • As you will have noticed, a beautiful one-sheet for The Back-up Plan was released recently! I have added an HQ to the gallery, but if you would like a bigger version, please submit a contact form or email me and I will send you a larger file.
  • If you have been following the distribution news for The Back-up Plan, you may have noticed that all countries were covered with the exception of Canada. That part of the distribution puzzle too is now complete, as Alliance has struck a 3-year deal with CBS Films and will handle all their releases in Canada through 2012.
  • Alex is #11 on Buddy TV’s 100 Sexiest Men of 2009:

Still hot from his beloved stint on Moonlight, O’Loughlin put on a pair of scrubs to become the next George Clooney or McDreamy. While Three Rivers isn’t exactly burning up the ratings, the thought of O’Loughlin saving a life is all the fire we need.

  • Here’s one lucky lady who received a personalized signed photo from our favorite Aussie: An Old Vamp Favorite: Alex O’Loughlin.
  • Whiteout will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in January 2010! It will be available in the USA from January 19th and in the UK from January 25th. The US DVD will only have additional scenes as extras whereas the Blu-ray disc will also contain:
    • The Coldest Thriller Ever Story- Kate Beckinsale and others brave disintegrating sets, gale-force winds and -65° lunch hours
    • Freeze Frame: From Page to Screen – The chronicle of a legendary graphic novel’s journey
    • A digital copy of the film.
  • The UK DVD, however, will contain both featurettes as well as the trailer and deleted scenes. Many thanks to Bianca for this information!
