AOLR Weekly Wrap-Up #21
Due to CBS’s Thanksgiving program schedule, we’ll have to make do without Alex O’Loughlin and Three Rivers today, but can look forward to the show’s return on Sunday, December 6th with episode 9, A Roll of the Dice!
- For a recap of last week’s episode, The Kindness of Strangers, check out TV Guide Magazine’s feature Kevin Rahm Goes Straight to Three Rivers.
- Steve Farber, founder of the American Transplant Foundation takes credit for this week’s Three Rivers Expert Blog post. Mr. Farber was fortunate enough to receive a kidney from his son when he required a transplant, but before it came to that, he candidly admits to having considering purchasing an organ on the black market, which was the topic of last week’s show. “The journey changed me for good,” he writes in his account on the Expert Blog.
- The latest post at Three Rivers Undercover covers the brilliant installment with Mandy Patinkin, that was written by Lance Gentile, an ER surgeon and former Emmy-winning writer for… ER. If you haven’t read it yet, you can do so here.
- TV Guide Magazine’s William Keck wrote about Israeli actor Oded Fehr coming on board the show in Some Luc-ky Casting for Three Rivers. He’s expected to play Dr. Luc, who “has the talent to match his ego” and he and Andy Yablonski butt heads over the treatment of a patient. He sounds like a great addition to the TR cast!
- iFMagazine recently published a very nice interview with Alex called Alex O’Loughlin Moonlights on Three Rivers. Some of the content you’ll have read before in other articles, but there’s also some new information to absorb!
- Alex’s fellow cast member Alfre Woodard (who plays Andy’s superior, Dr. Sophia Jordan) attended a White House state dinner held in honor of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last Tuesday. She was there with 334 other guests, including actor Blair Underwood and DreamWorks founders Jeffrey Katzenberg, David Geffen and Steven Spielberg.
Great news for anyone who missed seeing Whiteout in the theater or if you just want to get another glimpse of Alex’s polar bear club stint: the DVD and Blu-ray will be released in the New Year! US fans can obtain it from January 19th and it’s available in the UK from January 25th. Here are the links to the product pages on Amazon.com, Amazon UK (DVD) and Amazon UK (Blu-ray). It appears that the DVD will only have additional scenes as extras, whereas the Blu-ray will also include two featurettes (“The Coldest Thriller Ever Story” and “Freeze Frame: From Page to Screen”), and a digital copy of the film. Many thanks to Bianca for the heads up!

AOLR Weekly Wrap-Up #10
Time for a quick summary of the latest news about Alex O’Loughlin and his current projects!
- Whiteout was finally released on Friday, September 11th in the US and the UK and Wednesday’s premiere in LA produced a wonderful collection of over 135 photos (mostly HQ) of Alex O’Loughlin. Special thanks to Nadioz for providing many of the MQ images and many thanks to Alex too, for patiently posing for photos — Alex, your fans are very grateful
- The cast of Whiteout has also done a large number of interviews that have been captured on video. Check the best ones out here!
- The fourth season of Criminal Minds is now out on DVD in the US! Being able to watch Alex shine in The Big Wheel without the network’s watermark makes it worth the purchase, but knowing that there is also a special feature with him makes it even more enticing to get your own copy.
- Don’t forget to grab a copy of Entertainment Weekly’s September 18th issue as there’s a fabulous photo of Alex in there that you really do not want to miss. I’ll have a hi-res scan available later this week.
- At Thursday’s screening of the entertaining documentary Australians Hit Hollywood at the film festival in Temecula, California, producer Kalee StClair said that she was hopeful the film would be released on DVD in Australia and the US, provided a distributor can be found. Incidentally, some different footage of Alex was used in the film and not the full clips that she has posted on her YouTube channel. There is also a MySpace page for the documentary at http://myspace.com/australianshithollywood that you may want to check out.
- Don’t forget that Alex will throw the first pitch on Tuesday, September 15th at the Dodgers vs. Pittsburgh Pirates game in LA! Hopefully his practicing has paid off and his efforts will be televised and captured on video; at the very least we should get some nice images.
- It really is regrettable that nothing from Three Rivers was screened at the Paley Center’s Fall TV Preview Party on Friday in Beverly Hills. Some of us were hoping that at least the original pilot would be shown, but CBS decided pull the show from the PaleyFest altogether and we were told that this was because the new first episode wasn’t ready yet for viewing. I’m wondering what this means for the success of the series… Despite the many TV promos, interviews, photoshoots, ads and other efforts on CBS’s and Alex’s part, Three Rivers is being overshadowed by other shows in recent fall preview write-ups and many potential viewers appear unaware of its existence… and the October 4th premiere is a mere three weeks away. I hate to think that a potentially great show as Three Rivers already has a gap to close.
- Rob Owen of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports, by the way, that the now famous rugby scene with Alex has been scrapped from the first episode and will likely air in a later one.
- Last but not least, IESB.net published a long interview with Alex on September 9th from a Three Rivers set visit by Christina Radish. Alex answers questions about Three Rivers as well as Whiteout. You can read it here!
