Hawaii Five-0 Articles
- Some scoop from TV Guide’s Mega Buzz
Got any good scoop about Hawaii Five-0? Is Jenna Kaye going to hang around for a while? — Susan
ADAM: That’s the plan. In fact, she might be taking Chin Ho’s place on the team! I’m hearing that the final episodes of the season will reopen the matter of Chin’s unjust removal from the police force, and that he may finally get the reinstatement he deserves. Will he be able to turn down their juicy offer?I’m taking this with a grain of salt and a margarita
- Here’s a funny spoiler from EW’s Inside TV – I expect we’ll find out what it’s all about in the season finale, 1.23 Oia’i'o:
Anything on H5-0? Please? You’re looking great lately? Has anyone mentioned that? — Bridget
I prefer flattery that’s not in the form of a question, but you’re on the right track. When McGarrett and Danny have a showdown in an army surplus store, we learn a dark secret about Danny: He sucks at cooking eggs. - The Futon Critic confirms what we’ve known for quite a while, and that is that we get to enjoy 24 episodes of Hawaii Five-0 this season (including the pilot), so that means that we still have five more new episodes to go:
Also confirmed as 24-episode orders: “How I Met Your Mother,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “The Mentalist,” “NCIS,” “NCIS: Los Angeles” and “Criminal Minds.”
- Mike Gordon writes that there is another actor’s workshop scheduled for this afternoon:
THE CREATORS of “Hawaii Five-0″ are making good on a promise made to local actors in February and have scheduled a free afternoon workshop for today. But it’s by invitation only, so if you haven’t heard about it, you’re not invited — this time.
Series star Daniel Dae Kim, who plays Chin Ho Kelly on the show and has made Hawaii his home, said the “Five-0″ casting director worked with local acting coaches, managers and theaters to come up with the first list of 24 people. All of them have not previously appeared on the show.
“It’s important to emphasize that if a student isn’t able to participate this time around that we plan on having other workshops in the future,” Kim said in an email. “We’re only limiting the ‘class’ size in order to give each participant individual, personalized attention.”
Kim has been a key player in creating the workshops, which will start with a four-hour class with acting coach Scott Rogers.
“There’s definitely a strong enough base here to build on,” Kim said of Hawaii’s acting community. “What’s lacking is actors’ ability to work on their craft on a regular basis. Just like in sports, the way to get better is to practice.”
That’s it from me – have a great week!
Meet Alex O’Loughlin’s Fearless Hawaii Five-0 Stunt Double!
If behind every successful man, is a woman, then surely behind every successful action hero, there’s an awesome stunt double!
Justin Sundquist, 37, tells The News Tribune that he has always been known as “the guy who takes all the hard hits.” Outrageous stunts were part of his childhood growing up in University Place, WA with his older brother, Aaron. His sibling says of Justin, “He had no fear. He’ll do anything.”
With that bold attitude, it’s no surprise that he headed for Hollywood to become a stuntman a year after graduating with a degree in Psychology from Central University.
Currently Alex O’Loughlin’s stunt double on Hawaii Five-0, Justin is used to the anonymity in his profession.
During a recent episode of “Hawaii Five-O,” actor O’Loughlin chases a villain (played by singer, actor and until recently Tacoma Rainiers co-owner Nick Lachey) onto a tourist trolley. O’Loughlin appears to jump on a car and then launch himself into the moving trolley.
In actuality, the cameras stopped rolling when O’Loughlin put his foot on the car. It was then that Sundquist, dressed to match O’Loughlin, took over the scene and made the 10-foot jump from car to trolley where he landed on his stomach. Through camera angles and careful editing, the transition is seamless as O’Loughlin rises up to subdue the treacherous Lachey.
And that’s exactly how it’s supposed to work, Sundquist said.
“My job is to make Alex look good. It’s not about the stunt guy. It’s about making the character be who they want him to be. The public likes to think that actor did all those stunts.”
In addition to a matching wardrobe, badge and gun, Sundquist often is outfitted with fake tattoos to match O’Loughlin’s.
Aside from the fact that stuntmen are better skilled in their line of work than most actors, there are economic reasons why stuntmen are needed: Actors are precious commodities, and production will shut down if they get injured, Sundquist said.
