“Moonlight” Movie Miracle?

Ep13-31aIn the wake of the Moonlight DVD’s recent Saturn Award win comes talk of offering closure to the show that immortalized Alex O’Loughlin as vampire and PI Mick St. John, with a movie. Harry Werksman, one of Moonlight’s executive producers and writers, was present at the awards ceremony in Burbank on June 24th and mentioned that the show’s second season, had it been made, would have chronicled a war. One between humans and vampires to be exact.

So why not use that storyline in the Moonlight movie?

One major challenge that the production would have to overcome, however, is getting the original cast back on board. Although everyone has moved on to other projects, according to Harry, Alex O’Loughlin is still interested in reprising his lead role.

“I know I talked to Alex just a couple weeks ago, after Three Rivers got picked up, and I was congratulating him,” Harry said in an interview. “He’s like, ‘When are we going to do the movie?’ I said, ‘I don’t know, man. Any time you’re ready.’”

So, a miracle may still happen and although Moonlight fans will not get what they want ~ a second season of the show ~ they might just get the next best thing.

Thanks for this great article! There are so many of us who still long to see Mick St. John and the gang on the screen. I hope Alex gets his way and we see that movie. It sure would make a lot of Moonlight fans happy who were so devastated by what CBS did.

Some of us fought so hard to try to save Moonlight, and as much as I adore all that Alex does and look forward to all that he will do in the future, my heart is still broken over losing the battle. I know that Alex throws himself into each part with gusto and enthusiasm, but I bet if asked if he had a choice to continue Moonlight now, he would jump at the chance. He loved that show as much as we did, and he loved playing Mick. A movie would be nice – I just hate the word “closure”. No matter what may happen in a ML movie, there will never be closure for me, knowing that the show should have gone on for many years.
Alex is so involved with Three Rivers now and I know that he is honored to portray the doctor who saves lives every day and to be involved with Donate Life. When he was doing Moonlight though, he was like an excited little boy every time he got to talk about it. He had wanted to play a vampire all his life and he had so much fun doing the stunts and had so much fun with Jason and Sophia and the rest of the cast.
I know that TR will be awesome, but there will never be anything like Moonlight. SO – a Moonlight movie? I will be happy to get anything ML that we can. Good point about getting the cast together again – I hope it can be done. One thing I haven’t heard is if it would be a movie for TV or for theaters. Wouldn’t that be fun to sit in a theater and watch our vamps on the big screen?!
OK – I think I will shut up and go watch some MOONLIGHT…;)
PS – I know we would have had to let go of ML eventually anyway, as our Alex is on his way to the Oscars – maybe an Emmy or two first. One for his guest starring role on Criminal Minds and one for Three Rivers. The sky’s the limit for Alex O’Loughlin. (Gee, did I say enough here?…)

Thank you MizzoH for this fantastic article. I always knew that Alex is very interested to make a Moonlight movie someday. My fingers are still crossed that all the die hard and loyal fans of Moonlight will get to see Alex, Sophia, Jason, Shannyn and the rest of the supporting cast in a Moonlight movie someday, hopefully that someday is very soon. I do believe in miracles. Miracles can happen.

Thank you for this wonderful post! Those of us that fought for Moonlight’s return have always kept the hope alive in our hearts. Moonlight is simply a classic story that is so much more than a vampire tale. Alex loved Moonlight and I believe, he still does.
