AOLR Weekly Wrap-up #99

I’m kicking off this week’s updates with the launch of a new website that’s dedicated to videos of our wonderful Aussie and his work! Some of you are already aware that AlexOLoughlinVideos.com went live on Friday with a respectable collection of promos, clips, interviews and more relating to Alex and/or his projects. My hope is that it will be around for a long, long time so that new fans can get acquainted with his previous films and shows and that his current fans can continue to enjoy videos that may have disappeared from other sites.

As I will no longer be adding uploads to my YouTube accounts, please bookmark the site: http://alexoloughlinvideos.com. You can also access it via the link in the header menu under “Galleries”.

Special thanks go to Skylar, not just for the great site header, but also for tirelessly providing videos from North American broadcasts so that we don’t miss anything!

Hawaii Five-0 Updates
  • Season 2 shooting kicks off tomorrow with what has become a tradition: another blessing ceremony! Hawaii News Now’s Morning Sunrise will provide live coverage between 4:30-9:00 AM, and burning questions for the cast can be submitted to reporter Tannya Joaquin via Facebook.   :pineapple:
  • CBS released two photos from Friday’s episode 2.01 table read. This episode is titled Ha’iole – which translates to “rat breath”, according to Officer Bob.
From one of the pictures it’s evident that Terry O’Quinn’s character name is Lt. Commander Joe White; Peter tweeted that there is a reference to “Master Chief White” in 1.06 Ho’apono. McG mentions that the Master Chief subjected McGarrett to five extra hours of cold-water conditioning during his BUD/S training with class 203. Brrrr…
  • Peter will be on the In My Pajamas Show on BlogTalkRadio on July 25 at 8pm EDT – you shouldn’t have to miss it as the podcast will be made available on the site.
  • Peter has been back in Hawaii since July 6 and has been spending time scouting for locations and has posted various pictures and videos on Twitpic.
  • The release date for the Season 1 DVD is September 20, a day after the Season 2 premiere on CBS! The official description from CBS:

The new HAWAII FIVE-0 is a contemporary take on the classic series about a new elite federalized task force whose mission is to wipe out the crime that washes up on the Islands’ sun-drenched beaches. One of the season’s top new series debuts on DVD in time for the Season 2 premiere. This 6-disc set features all 24 dramatic and action-filled episodes, and is packed with DVD-exclusive special features including behind-the-scenes featurettes, cast & crew commentaries, deleted scenes and more! Stars Alex O’Loughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim, and Grace Park.

  • Taryn Manning tells Sky TV that she is excited to be returning as McGarrett’s sister Mary Ann in Season 2, and Peter Lenkov replied to a tweet about whether she would return:

Of course he needs his sis… she’ll be back

  • I was honored to participate in a podcast recording recently with Dana, who runs the lovely Hawaii in Vermont blog. Dana – who, to my delight, is also an Alex fan – regularly posts entertaining podcasts with bloggers who love Hawaii Five-0, and I’ve discovered that they’re really great to listen to while fixing dinner or doing tedious chores like ironing!  You can check out the podcasts here. One recording that I’m especially looking forward to is with Will Yun Lee, whom we of course know as Sang Min – Five O’s most likeable baddie! Will’s is Episode #5 of the Summer Podcast Series, and it’s the next in line to be posted.
  • Daniel Dae Kim combined work with pleasure when he was in Europe recently! He also dropped by ITV’s This Morning for a chat on July 5 and you can view the video here and some pics here.
  • Scott Caan was spotted at Madeo in West Hollywood last week – check out the HQs and video!
  • More pics from the February Hilton Hawaiian Village shoot of Alex and Scott have been added to the gallery.
Hawaii Five-0 Articles
  • United Airlines passengers can enjoy reruns of Hawaii Five-0 episodes as part of the carrier’s in-fight entertainment program, writes Wayne Harada.
  • Fans in Australia and the UK got to see the Season 1 finale tonight and The West Australian published a nice mention:

What started out as just another buddy cop show set in a tropical paradise recycling a classic format has evolved into quite the classy action drama complete with at times witty dialogue and great stunt driving.

After false starts on other shows, Aussie Alex O’Loughlin has finally found his TV feet as Steve McGarrett, who in Sunday’s season finale makes a shock discovery about the death of his parents while trying to connect Wo Fat to the murder of someone close to the mayor.

  • The always entertaining James Marsters was at the Supernova expo in Sydney recently and he announced that Victor Hesse will definitely be back in Season 2 to torment McGarrett:

A good talker and appreciative of his fans at the Q&A session, James spoke highly of his latest role opposite Australia’s own Alex O’Loughlin in Hawaii Five-O. “I’m a recurring character in season two of Hawaii Five-O and fighting Alex is much more complicated than anything I did on Buffy. Alex is hands on and trained to hurt, I love the guy.”

  • Have you always wondered how TV residual payments work? Mike Gordon provides clarification in his Outtakes today:

When it comes to television reruns, the checks are always in the mail.

It’s like winning the lottery. The royalty checks — commonly called residuals — can arrive long after a series has left prime time, a surprise delivery that keeps on paying for decades.

Of course, the amount dwindles with time to almost laughable lows. But for local actors who landed speaking roles on this past season’s “Hawaii Five-0,” those initial checks are among the coolest perks of the gig.

Whenever an episode they were in repeats in network prime time — and CBS has aired about 30 repeats so far — actors receive 100 percent of what they earned for their initial performance, according to the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, the union that oversees “Five-0.” And when a show is syndicated, their work keeps paying every time their episode airs, but with smaller and smaller checks until — after a dozen broadcasts — they bottom out at 5 percent of the original paycheck.

    Dear Mizzoh,
Thanks for doing such a Great job with this Website!! ^_^ I recently read there will be a ceremony blessing for the start of Season 2 H5-0 production. And wanted to know how do we watch it live? Is there a link we can go to. I know it’s being held in Hawaii and that the interview of the cast will start at 4:30am to 9:00am. I’m just not quite sure where I can watch it. Also would that be 4:30am U.S. time?? Thanks ^_^ <3

    • mizzoh says:

      Hi Niecy –

That’s Hawaii time and the only way you can watch it live is if you’re in Hawaii, have satellite reception or if HNN streams it live. If they were planning to do that, I think they would have mentioned it. They usually get their videos up pretty quickly on their site and as it’s a CBS affiliate, it’s very likely that CBS will also post a video, like they did last year.
