Steve McGarrett could use another ally and it appears that he will be getting one in the form of Terry O’Quinn!
TV|Line brings the terrific news that the former Lost star is joining the Hawaii Five-0 cast in a recurring role as the man responsible for McGarrett’s SEAL training at the Navy stronghold in Coronado. O’Quinn’s character, who shares the Five-0 leader’s rank of Lt. Commander, was also a comrade of McGarrett Sr. in Vietnam.
More importantly, the character will be able to help shed some light on the murders of Steve’s parents.
O’Quinn will debut in the season premiere, writes The Hollywood Reporter.
So that’s three new faces so far on the show:
- Steve’s possible love interest, Homeland Security Officer Lori Wilson (note that the name may still change)
- The new governor
- Terry O’Quinn’s character
Daniel Dae Kim is certainly pleased to have his former Lost castmate join his current show. Daniel tweeted:

“We are all honored and excited that Emmy Award-winning Terry O’Quinn, has joined our HAWAII FIVE-0 ‘ohana’ (Hawaiian for family),” said Executive Producer Peter Lenkov. “O’Quinn’s character, who we will meet in the premiere, is going to be a major contributor to our team…because he taught McGarrett everything he knows.”
“We’re lucky to have Terry on HAWAII FIVE-0,” said Daniel Dae Kim. “He’s a great actor who brings a sense of ease and professionalism to every project he works on, and I’m excited to work with him again.”
I can’t wait for Season 2 to kick off!
It would be great to see O’Quinn again but I still think they’ve jumped the gun on adding in new characters before we have really gotten to know the original four characters, especially Steve himself. I most definitely do not want to see Steve get a new love interest when the original one was great but terribly underused. That Steve would have a tough girl like Kathryn was great but we hardly got to see her. Does this mean they are just going to shift around to GF after GF, or jsut superficial LI after LI instead of linking him with one GF we get to see repeatedly? Because that is depressing and not fun at all. Bring back Kathryn. Forget the other nonsense. A long term serious relationship, which Steve supposedly already had, is what makes sense adn brings us back-not the idea of one girl after another. Sorry btu this doesn’t sound good at all.
