This post contains spoilers.
In Hollywood, it’s easy come, easy go. If a character isn’t working out as expected or if it simply befits the continuously evolving story line, then of course a role is always expendable.
C’est la vie.
We discovered something was up with former CIA analyst Jenna Kaye at the end of this season’s opener and the development in the second episode felt like a goodbye. Peter Lenkov confirmed to TV Guide that the end is indeed near for Jenna:
“We’re wrapping up the Jenna story. She’s going to disappear from her life for a little bit and then come back into it in Episode 10 (likely airing November 21) for a very big story that’s going to be very McGarrett/Wo-Fat-centric. It has to do with the origins of McGarrett and takes us back to North Korea where we started in the pilot.”
Too bad – just when I had just gotten used to her. But episode 10 sounds just awesome, regardless.
But that’s not the only news from the Hawaii Five-0 casting front!
Singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffett will be making a guest appearance as a pilot friend of Lt. Commander Joe White’s, reports EW.
And speaking of McGarrett’s mentor and former trainer: Terry O’Quinn – who has the possibility of getting his own show on ABC – initially signed on to do six episodes, but has been convinced to stay on for an additional three. Peter Lenkov shares with TV Guide that he is “hoping for even more”:
“Terry’s a guy who really wants to get his own show, and he deserves that. That’s his goal. But we’d love to make it work where he could do both.”
And if the following is true, then it’s casting that’s going to be hard to top this season:
Legendary actor James Caan is in town to do a guest spot on Hawaii Five-0 … which will be the first time he’s worked with son Scott (Dano).
As someone pointed out on Twitter, it wouldn’t be a first-time father-and-son collaboration for the Caans, but hopefully MidWeek got the most important part of their news right!

That surprise at the end of the episode seeing Jenna with Wo Fat did make me wonder Mizz as to her longevity. I am really enjoying Terry’s character and hope he will continue to do 5-0 if he gets his own show. And it will be interesting to see James Caan with Scott and the gang. Thanks for the updates, an exciting season!
I’m not sure Jenna is all bad though. The writers still have lots of surprises in store for us and I can’t wait to see all the twists and turns.
Terry is definitely a godsend, fits right in seamlessly. A fantastic actor – how absolutely brilliant to cast him in a role that is just exactly what McGarrett and the show needs. And any man who can actually keep Danny in check with just a look has my blessing!
Thank you Mizz for all the casting news and recent articles! Season 2 of Hawaii Five-0 is going to be exciting. I really enjoy Terry O’Quinn and now I get to see James Caan working with his son, Scott, on a future episode of H50.
I don’t know where to squee first! So I guess I’ll just do it for ALL of them. Peter rocks! I have such a crush on him
and I LOVE Hawaii 5-0!
(Alex too… but you knew that!
) Thanks Mizz… I’m kinda sweet on you too!!
