Hawaii Five-0 Casts its “Female McGarrett”

The latest attractive addition to the burgeoning cast of Hawaii Five-0 has the Internet buzzing! Not because she is well-known, but because she has been labelled a potential love interest for Steve McGarrett by several sources.

Series regular Lauren German will play the former Homeland Security officer who joins Steve’s elite team of crime fighters. Our esteemed leader, however, has no say in this development – his latest recruit will function as the eyes and ears of the new governor, according to Mike Gordon and Matt Mitovich.

It looks like we may have to wait until episode 2.02 to make the acquaintance of the “female McGarrett”. Knowing the fans, who are already very passionate about “their” show, the newest casting addition will need to bring not just acting chops to the Five-0 surface table, but also be thick-skinned.

Anyone closely associated to the immensely popular Steve McGarrett is going to be under very close scrutiny indeed.

Many fans still favor the return of Michelle Borth as Catherine Rollins (whose fate has not yet been addressed), while others are willing to welcome the new team member, but only in a strictly professional capacity.

Some comments have also been made that Lauren appears to be too young for the part, but anyone Googling her images will quickly discover that the lady is very versatile in the looks department.

And let’s not forget that the words “potential” and “possible” have been used in relation to Steve’s love interest, so the direction this will take may also depend on factors such as fan response.

Adopting a wait-and-see attitude would be fitting for anyone not familiar with Lauren’s work. Her character will, of course, need to provide added value to the storylines, as the show already has more than its fair share of eyecandy. Many of us expect the focus to remain on our four core team members.

Another familiar face that we will see – if not in the first, then certainly in the second episode – is Larisa Oleynik, who will return as ex-CIA analyst Jenna Kaye, according to TV Guide.

As there is so much testosterone on Hawaii Five-0, it’s great that more female energy is being added even things out. Season 2 promises to bring us even more drama, excitement and fun – Five-0 style!

Mizz, thanks for the article. I too would welcome the return of Catherine Rollins as Steve’s love and agree with iluvmickstjohn that this new character should be more a thorn in Steve’s side more than anything else.

I’d also like to see more emotion from Steve. I loved the scene in the season finale with him and the Governor when he confronted her at her house. I want more of that, at one point I thought he was on the verge of tears.

This is my first posting on AOL Rocks. I love this site by the way.

I have no objection to another female character joining the cast, but I would prefer for her not to be a love interest for Steve. I like his relationship with Catherine, although I understand Michelle Borth is working on Combat Hospital and may not be available for Hawaii Five-0. I’d like to see Steve working with Jenna Kaye (the scenes in her 1st episode where he kicks the hotel door in or the chewing gum were just so funny :giggle: )

I’ve read somewhere a while back that Steve is getting a new love interest to rival the relationship between Castle and Beckett on Castle because H50 and Castle are in the same timeslot.. Bad reason in my opinion if this is true.

The best relationship in H50 is the one between Steve and Danno and the writers needs to remember :love3:

:thankyou: Thanks Mizz for your excellent website !

Hi Eliza – welcome and thank you for posting!

I hated that chewing gum scene, I thought that it was so out of place, awkward and out of character. It didn’t endear me to Jenna at all.

The initial reports were that Combat Hospital is a 13-episode summer series and Michelle recently said in an interview that she remains interested in coming back to H50 if they’ll have her.

I totally understand the need for more characters. It isn’t very realistic that this team consists of just four people, but I’m not sure either about the possible romance. We’ll just have to wait and see!

    Thanks for the article!

You’ve summed up my thoughts exactly. I am one who favors Michelle Borth’s return. I really liked the dynamic between Steve and Catherine and always viewed her as the female McGarrett. I don’t quite understand why the need for another. I am still very much looking forward to seeing how they handle all the new characters.

This is my first post and I can’t thank you enough for all the information you bring to the fans!

:scratchhead: She survived “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” so maybe she will be great in the action scenes. I don’t think she should be a love interest for McG either. If anything, she should be a thorn in his side. Give the viewers some tension and frustraton in the relationship between her and McG. Would much rather see the relationship with Catherine continue. This is a man who is a Navy SEAL…..they don’t have a whole lot of time in one place to establish long term relationships so I would like to learn more about his relationship with Catherine. Friends with benefits, or something more? What was their history?

I can sort of see the writers point in bringing more characters into the show. Alex and Scott are going to burn out if they need to work as hard as they did last season. Both probably want to pursue side projects….a movie here or there….a play…..something….we are anxious to see them in every episode but is that realistic for them?

    Just a thought…..

Yep, that’s right. It would be far more interesting to bring back the old LI, a woman who’s known Steve for years and has a past with him as well as being a tough Navy officer in her own right than to bring in a new LI just for the heck of it. A long term relationship would make McGarrett far more interesting. Catherine Rollins was already McGarrett’s counterpart and replacing here makes no sense to me. New cast members, especially so many of them, will take screen time, and the chance to get to know the core four better, away from us. Why are they so anxious to add more cast members before letting us get a further depth understadning of Steve, Danny, Chin, and Kono? And, PLEASE let Steve show more emotion next season!

I remain convinced that numerous new regular cast members is not the way to proceed.

Thank you Mizz. I am certain that gorgeous and talented Lauren German will be fantastic as Lori Wilson on Hawaii Five-0.
