Description:
Moonlight is the short-lived CBS drama series that introduced Alex O’Loughlin as the suave but angsty Mick St. John to a worldwide audience and gained him a loyal and passionate international fan base. As the show’s LA-based private investigator, Mick is also a reluctant vampire, who was “turned” by his wife Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon) on their wedding night in 1952. Her “gift” left him scarred in many ways. Avoiding close relationships with humans, he loathes what he is and feels compelled to seek redemption by helping others. Despite his trust and commitment issues, Mick is drawn to Beth Turner, an investigative – and mortal – reporter who was kidnapped when she was a child. Repressing her own traumatic memories, Beth finds Mick alluring, even though she is in a relationship with ADA Josh Lindsey (Jordan Belfi). As their attraction for each other continues to grow after Beth discovers Mick’s secret and they join forces to work on cases, many factors also prevent them from being together as a couple.

Moonlight has a vampire mythology all its own. Its undead can walk for a limited time in the sun, sleep in freezers to slow down the decay of their bodies, have especially acute hearing and an enhanced sense of smell, “a ridiculous vertical leap” and inhuman strength. They are not particularly bothered by holy water, garlic or crucifixes. A stake paralyzes them but does not kill, their wounds heal very quickly and they can only be killed by fire, decapitation or large amounts of silver in their system.

The Moonlight story is told in a total of 16 episodes that are all intense, sophisticated and sexy. The series won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite New TV Drama in 2008.
