The great think about using an electric pan over glass top stoves is that you will not use as much energy to cookfood. This is because the heating element in the frying pan is centralized to only what is needed to achieve the temperature you are looking for. In addition, when you add a lid to the pan, the pressure will allow you to cook faster. It is no wonder there are so many American homes with these kinds of pans in them.
What about the fry pans of the stainless steel variety? These pans are good if you`re looking to burn whatever you`re cooking, otherwise stay away from them. Generally, stainless steel fry pans do not distribute heat efficiently and will cause and uneven cooking of your food - food also has a tendency to stick to stainless steel for some reason.
A really good frying pan is one that spreads the heat evenly across the entire surface, affording a shorter cook time and a smoother more appetizing food finish. Hard-anodized steel is a popular material often used in these pans and it does offer an even heat cooking quality. The only slight negative is you`ll need to clean this one by hand; it is not known to be dishwasher safe. Perhaps a slightly better product might be the laminated pans with several layers of aluminum and stainless steel together. The aluminum provides the even heat and the stainless steel provides the beautiful hard finish. And, it is dishwasher safe.
With most folks, price is always going to be the final decision maker. You know you are not going to get a decent nonstick frying pan for 5 or 10 bucks; these pans are priced anywhere from 20 to 120 dollars. I don`t recommend the 20 dollar pan, nor do I suggest the 120 dollar pan. Somewhere in between is probably going to fit your budget and get you a pan that will be a pleasure to use for years. Do remember this though; you really will come out better in the long run by investing a few extra bucks in your cookware. Just make sure you read all the details describing the way the pan is made and pay special attention to the number of layers of nonstick material.
