Three Rivers Rumors Run Rife

alex-tca-party[Updated 09-May-18] CBS has apparently given the go ahead for the staffing of Alex O’Loughlin’s Three Rivers, leading various sources to report that the show has most likely been picked up for the Fall ’09 lineup. Official word won’t follow until Wednesday, May 20th, when the network reveals the new season’s schedule to advertisers and the media at New York’s Carnegie Hall. Here’s a rundown:

“In a weekend filled with the broadcast networks furiously renewing shows and greenlighting new fall series, Variety is reporting that CBS, which will officially unveil its fall 2009 line-up on Wednesday in New York City, has given the OK to five new dramas: The Good Wife, starring Julianna Margulies; Three Rivers, starring Moonlight alum Alex O’Loughlin; medical drama Miami Trauma starring Jeremy Northam; an untitled drama about U.S. Attorneys; and the much-anticipated NCIS spin-off starring Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J.” — Tanner Stransky at EW.com, May 18, 2009

“Meanwhile, it’s shaping to be another strong pilot pickup season for Bruckheimer.

“After one of his two pilots, The Forgotten, was picked up to series at ABC, the other, CBS’ medical drama Miami Trauma, was given the green light by the network to begin staffing.

The move, considered a precursor to a series order, follows approvals for CBS’ drama pilots Three Rivers, The Good Wife, the NCIS spinoff and U.S. Attorney.

“If all five are picked up to series, CBS would have two medical dramas (Trauma and Rivers) and two legal dramas (Wife and Attorney) on the schedule next season.” — Nellie Andreeva in The Hollywood Reporter, May 17, 2009

“Meanwhile, CBS is going drama-heavy again in its new series picks. The Eye, which unveils its lineup on Wednesday, gave the OK on Saturday for staffing to begin on three hot drama prospects: Julianna Margulies starrer ‘The Good Wife’; ‘Three Rivers’, toplined by ‘Moonlight’ alum Alex O’Loughlin; Medical drama ‘Miami Trauma’; and the ‘NCIS spinoff with LL Cool J and Chris O’Donnell.” — Michael Schneider in Variety, May 17, 2009

“This Wednesday, CBS will make its official announcement for the 2008-09 season, but word has already leaked out that there will be three new drama series in CBS’s new schedule. The NCIS spinoff, which I would have nixed, is in there, as well as a Julianna Margulies show called The Good Wife, and an Alex O’Loughlin vehicle set in the medical field and dealing with organ donors called Three Rivers. The latter may not have the sex appeal of Moonlight, but how much you want to bet the O’Loughlin fans will be tuning in?” — Allison Waldman at TV Squad, May 17, 2009

“The first real indication of notoriously tight-lipped CBS’ new series plans emerged Saturday, as the Eye gave a greenlight to begin staffing up three dramas.

“Pilots given the go-ahead — a pretty obvious sign that series orders are imminent — include the ‘NCIS’ spinoff, as well as medical drama ‘Three Rivers’ and the Julianna Margulies starrer ‘The Good Wife.’” — Michael Schneider in Variety, May 16, 2009

However, Nikki Finke is now recanting her previous post about CBS passing up on Miami Trauma in favor of Three Rivers:

“Having CBS allow the medical pilot Miami Trauma from Jerry Bruckheimer. Not true, according to my latest information. I’ve just been told that CBS has given Miami Trauma the green light to ‘make staffing offers’”. — Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood Daily, May 17, 2009

So now we’ve been treated to three possible scenarios:

  1. Three Rivers has not been picked up, but Miami Trauma has
  2. Three Rivers has been picked up, and Miami Trauma hasn’t
  3. Both Three Rivers and Miami Trauma have been picked up.

There are a couple more that I could think of (what ever happened to The Eastmans?), but thank goodness it’s almost Wednesday. Alex O’Loughlin should come with a government health warning as this anxious waiting is so not what the doctor ordered!

Like Bianca says, the suspense and the wait is killing me, I am still keeping my fingers crossed, just in case!

The suspense is killing me, but so far the publicity seems to be good about “Three Rivers.” I want to stay positive, but CBS has made me cautious. Until then, I am keeping fingers and toes crossed!
