The lanai of penthouse #2613 at Waikiki’s Ilikai Hotel features in the opening credit sequence of the Hawaii Five-0 pilot, as it did in Jack Lord’s series. The Ilikai Owners blogged about Alex O’Loughlin and the production crew being there on March 23rd to film the iconic balcony scene:
Here is some fantastic news! It appears that our Ilikai will be in the new “Hawaii Five-O”! Last week (March 23, 2010), the CBS crew was here at out Ilikai to recreate the opening scene for the “new” “Hawaii Five-O,” with the “new” Steve McGarrett on the lanai of the penthouse # 2613 (i.e., the same lanai as used for the original series). Alex O’Loughlin will be the “new” Det. Steve McGarrett (previously played by Jack Lord). The movie crew was also filming some of the pilot scenes in the area surrounding the Ilikai.
The Ilikai Hotel management also provided some pictures of the helicopter approaching the building and one of Alex standing at the railing looking out to the ocean. The unit is also known as “Chinn Ho’s penthouse”, as the property developer was a former owner and actually developed the Ilikai, which was Hawaii’s first condominium.
