In tonight’s new episode of Hawaii Five-0, McGarrett is thrown another curveball in the form of Lori Weston, who is foisted on him by Lt. Governor Denning.
Kono, meanwhile, is oblivious to this new development. She has her hands full dealing with Capt. Vincent Fryer when he starts digging deeper in the course of his investigation into her activities on behalf of Internal Affairs. Grace Park tells TV Guide:
“Kono is not even around them. She doesn’t even know that there’s another person. She doesn’t know anything. She suspects that she doesn’t belong with the team, and they’re all just trying to make her feel better. But eventually you have to go take care of your own business. That’s what she embarks on. When Lori comes in, Kono is already out of the picture.
“Kono has been dealing psychologically with the same situation that her cousin Chin Ho’s been [in], being scandalized. It’s almost worse, like a double hit in the same extended family. It’s extra embarrassing. Just before they can celebrate his clean record or his being brought back, it’s kind of sullied again.
“Fryer’s hot on her tail. He’s onto her, the whole investigation. He doesn’t believe her. He doesn’t trust her. So he’s really out to sniff out what he thinks is suspect. She’s got a lot to cover up and try to prove at the same time. I think the character dynamic is interesting alone.”
Kono is not the only Five-0 investigator Fryer rubs the wrong way. Alex O’Loughlin says of the IAD captain and McGarrett,”There’s tension between the two characters.”
The cast, however, is totally happy about Tom Sizemore’s creative contribution to Season 2. To Scott Caan, Tom is a “genius actor” and Alex adds, “He brings a whole new energy and a whole new level of danger and a whole new level of excitement to the show.”
Ua Lawe Wale (Taken) airs tonight at its usual time of 10/9c on CBS.

Hey ladies lets see if any of you noticed something on Alex clohtes on last nite episode. I just noticed until now that I am re watching episode in slow motion. In one scene when Steve, Lori and Danno are in the farm compund and shooting the bad guys, and they hid at some small cabin with he mother of the girl who was kjidnapped and then they go out to keep shooting the guys, when Steve goes out with Danno, there is a part when the camera point at Alex ´s back I am sure I could see Alex white underwear and also you can see very very briefly and so quick Alex back tattoe. It was a super fast scene that if u dont take a closer look you dont notice. ANyone notice that?
I LOVED last nights episode! I thought it was one of the best yet. I think Lori Weston fits right in with our team. There are the BEGINNINGS of many story arcs that started with this episode. The first epi was all about closing out last year’s arcs and tying up loose ends, now this one begins with new stories and adventures for our team.

I love to see them change and bring in more stories. I’m sure the actors love it too. No one wants to keep everything the same. It makes for bored actors and an boring show. I love to see Steve challenged and thrown off a bit. He is human, not some kind of killing machine. It’s nice to see blood rushing through those veins and not napalm.
Lori is a good fit and she looks good on camera with Steve. It was great to see him checking her out. You’re not going to see him get involved with anyone but it’s nice to know he can do some eye humping of his own. Like I said, he is human.
We will see how tough Kono can be, how vulnerable Steve can be, how Danny will rebound and Chin reunites with his lost love. All kinds of stories that will involve some very good characters played by Terry, Lauren, Tom and others. I’m looking forward to some great characterization of our heros. They live, learn and grow just like the rest of us.
Relax and enjoy the ride. It’s going to be a wild one!
I for one am so glad to see how well Lauren German fits in. She’s very photogenic and she handles being on the screen with Alex… that is not an easy thing to do!
Thanks Mizz for your updates!
I kind of feel the same on last nite episode. I do believe the Steve-Catherine story must have a continuation or a closure in either case but not get her out of the picture just like that and leave people wonder. Maybe the plot to have Catherine was because she also works for the military and that is the way they both met so they built the story on that, although they never say in teh series how they both met.
Also I dont want the new girl to overshadow Steve”s job, he is the leader of the team, it should remain that way and yes lecturing him in front of a total stranger was not a good way to start that episode, the dialogue was not a good one between the 3.
I mean she should be another team member who add her experience to the team, and in that case is good, but never to take away Steve role as the leader of his team. IIs ok teh new governor keep an eye of him but not in a way that he will take away all of his duties and make the lady lets say his babysitter, like Steve said.
And yes she should be in a different kind of clothes, not so dressy since she is in Hawaii, not that she should be in shorts and tank tops but more casual at least.
Maybe the plot to have Catherine was because she also works for the military and that is the way they both met so they built the story on that
Jenna must be brought back for sure in future episodes, since she is the mole and she needs to keep digging on Steve past and it be more intense knowign the team does not have a clue she is the mole, we need more episodes on that. I hope the writers bring Mary back at some episode as well for the story line.
I know is too soon to tell it just has been 2 episodes but I hope they get better. The bromance has to stop at some point, not everyday otherwise will make people get tired. I mean the bromance is good but not to have it in each episode. The funny part in the show is ok but I hope they dont make it as a habit.
Thanks for updating photos and news on Alex Mizzo.
And Mizzoh, you have a great site here!!!
Can you tell I would rather he not have a love interest as in no girl is good enough for our guy?
I’m conflicted…I was hoping for the same thrilling ride as last week but was slightly disappointed that this week’s episode failed to deliver the same heart stopping punches. This week felt more like a procedural that an on your toes, holding your breath adventure. I did like the familiar Steve/Danny banter but was unimpressed with Lori’s story line. She doesn’t seem to offer much at the table so to speak but hopefully that thread will work itself out. I feel horrible for Kono especially when she watched her demise televised for all of Hawaii to see. It will be very interesting to see how the writers get her out of this mess. Jenna on the other hand is conveniently leaving to find her “dead” fiance??? What is that?? I’m sure this is NOT the last we see of her
Overall, I did like the show VERY MUCH!! Steve on a horse (and in JEANS) was enough to get me through the Monday doldrums at work.
Here’s looking forward to next weeks high flying adventure!! May it be as suspenseful as S2. E1
Mahalo Mizz for your continued Alex & H50 updates!!!
Thanks for all your work, Mizzoh – watched tonight’s episode and not feeling “the new girl” – may change with familiarity – but there’s a beginning problem overall: McGarrett is the leader of the team – that should be more “felt.”
Last week Danny yells at him after not seeing Steve since latter was stabbed. Yell – really? (sorry – that’s not ‘bromance”) And this week McGarret registered as one of the players rather than the leader. Not the greatest episode. Scenes with Kono were the strongest (and where Steve reminds the newcomer that he can’t be expected to trust her after a couple of hours).
Loved the first season; want to continue loving it and seeing it play on for a good many seasons.
And appreciate your posts.
Thanks Mizz. I cannot wait to watch this exciting new episode tonight!
