One-Time Time Slot Change for “Three Rivers”

08-11-2009 14-01-05Last night’s episode of Three Rivers, The Luckiest Man, resulted in the best (preliminary) ratings so far for the show. As summarized in James Hibberd’s The Live Feed:

With Mandy Patinkin as guest star, “Rivers” was up 11%, drawing 8.5 million viewers and a 2.0 preliminary adults 18-49 rating, followed by “Cold Case” (9.2 million, 2.1), which hit its best rating since early October, rising 24% from last week’s season low. “Rivers” climbed despite its lead in, “Amazing Race” (11.6 million, 3.2) dropping 9%.

CBS has today re-issued their entertainment release for next Sunday’s episode, in which it’s clear that the network is swapping Three Rivers‘ time slot with that of Cold Case on November 22nd. Episode 8, The Kindness of Strangers, will now air at 10-11 PM instead of at 9-10 PM. In a follow-up article,  The Live Feed speculates that the one-time experiment is to see if either show benefits from the change:

CBS probably figures they’ll give “Case” the stronger “Amazing Race” lead in and push “Rivers” to where there’s less competition at 10 p.m. and see what happens. Worth a shot.

Hibberd goes on to mention that there are rumors that CBS is considering putting in an order for possibly two more scripts and perhaps even five more episodes of the show, a decision that may depend on the national numbers to be released tomorrow for last Sunday’s episode.
