HAWAI’I Magazine readers have voted our Five-0 the “best Hawai’i-filmed TV series”!

Here’s what was published in the September-October “Best of Hawai’i” issue:

Let the debate continue!

Who’s a better Detective Steve McGarrett – Jack Lord or Alex O’Loughlin? Prefer a Det. Danny “Danno” Williams who gives McGarrett lip or one who doesn’t? Like your Hawai’i-filmed TV crime dramas deliberately slow and smoldering, or fast-paced and front-loaded with Hawai’i scenery? We had a feeling one McGarrett TV series would wind up at the top here. And in the end, HAWAI’I readers opted for the new Hawai’i Five-0 as their favorite Hawai’i-filmed TV series ever, with a final tally that wasn’t as close as we expected.

After much discussion about whether the world really needed a Hawai’i Five-0 redux and just how much one might stink, showrunners Peter Lenkov, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci quietly crafted a new Five-0 that quelled much criticism by actually being, well, pretty good. And a ratings success as well.

The series’ second season will kick off, as did the first, with an outdoor premiere of the first new episode at Waikiki’s Queens Beach on Sept. 10, a week and change before its Sept. 19 CBS debut. The Five-0 crew here – (left to right) Grace Park, Daniel Dae Kim, Alex O’Loughlin, Scott Caan – are expected to be there along with new cast member Terry O’Quinn, himself the veteran of another much-loved Hawai’i-filmed TV series, Lost. Be there. Ahola.

…and the runners up were: No. 2, Hawai’i Five-O (1968-1980); No. 3, Magnum P.I.
