Hawaii Five-0 Packs a Punch at Premiere

According to Hawaii News Now, more than 10,000 eager participants packed the sands of Queen’s Surf Beach last night for the highly anticipated Waikiki premiere of Hawaii Five-0.

After the cast arrived to the enthusiastic cheers of the waiting crowd, they gave numerous interviews on the red carpet and made their way along the lines of fans to chat and sign autographs.

Alex O’Loughlin admitted to being a tad nervous about the event the Honolulu Star-Advertiser calls “the show’s biggest screen test”, but the star – sounding more Aussie than usual after what had undoubtedly been a long day of shooting – also felt “humbled, deeply grateful and really overwhelmed”.

After initially having felt like an outsider when he first arrived on the island, he sounded very happy with the warm welcome he received at Sunset on the Beach last night.

“It feels like I’m part of the community,” Alex shared with a pleased smile.

“I can’t believe this turnout.”

The pilot screening – for many the highlight of the evening – was very well received. Among the audience were not only Governor Linda Lingle and acting Mayor of Honolulu Kirk Caldwell, but also the three daughters of the original show’s creator Leonard Freeman, as well as two stars from the first series, Al Harrington and Jimmy Borges.

Although James MacArthur, the original Det. Danny Williams, was unable to attend last night’s festivities, he did convey a significant message to the audience via Al Harrington:

“I’m looking forward to making an appearance in the new show when the time is right. I can’t wait to see what the writers have in store for me. In the meantime, I’ll be watching every week eagerly anticipating the further adventures of the new ‘Five-0′ team.”
