Making a hit television show takes a lot of time, money, patience, meticulous planning, careful execution, skilled people, expensive equipment, clever editing… and in the case of Hawaii Five-0, it also takes the expertise of the US Army’s men and women, in particular those of the 25th Infantry Division!
The Five-0 production has relied on the 25th’s support in two episodes now of the show, reports On Patrol.
Scenes shot at the “Tsunami Warning Center” for 1.14 Kai e’e involved aircraft, ground vehicles and manpower provided by the 25th Combat Avation Brigade. The 25th Infantry Division Public Affairs also shot aerial footage that was used in the episode and the CAB assisted the show’s production crew with additional aerial scenes.
Further support came in episode 1.19 Ma Ke Kahakai, where Steve McGarrett fractures his arm while climbing down a cliff and requires being airlifted by a medevac helicopter – a UH-60A Black Hawk – courtesy of the 25th CAB. The CAB also shot scenes with Daniel Dae Kim and provided stand-ins for both McGarrett and Chin Ho Kelly for safety purposes.
Many thanks to the 25th Infantry Division for bringing their expertise to Hawaii Five-0 and for sharing lots of great behind-the-scenes photographs from both episodes on Flickr: 1.14 and 1.19! I’ve added the below images and more to the BTS gallery.
