Following various recent tweets from online reporters and The Hollywood Reporter’s confirmation on Friday that CBS has given the go ahead for the Hawaii Five-O pilot, Michael Ausiello at EW.com today posted what some of us have been suspecting and hoping:
CBS Eyeing Alex O’Loughlin for ‘Hawaii Five-O’
Will the third time be the charm for CBS and Alex O’Loughlin?
Undeterred by the back-to-back failures of Moonlight and Three Rivers, The Eye net is courting O’Loughlin to headline the freshly-greenlit remake of Hawaii Five-O, sources confirm.
“Talks are ongoing,” says the insider. “CBS really wants to do another series with him.”

Crim Minds’ Bernero was developing Hawaii 5-O for Alex O’Loughlin. Back in now that 3 Rivs axed? http://bit.ly/5QF05Y @bastardmachine
theTVAddict:
CBS just greenlit a HAWAII FIVE-O reboot, and if what I overheard at TCA is true, fans are going to go nuts for who they’ve cast as the lead
TheTVAddict also posted a message with a not so hidden clue:
CBS greenlights a HAWAII FIVE-O remake, O how we wish we could spill who CBS has in mind for the lead.
Let’s hope we hear from Alex O’Loughlin himself soon about whether or not he will return to grace our screens as a Hawaiian Hottie!

I agree with everything Pinkie has said above Mizzoh. I don’t think being a remake will factor in for most viewers and I am confident Alex would do an amazing job!
I also agree with your comment that a decent time slot is necessary, on a week night without sports over-runs and pre-emptions please. I would also like to see it at the beginning of new show launches, not at the end as TR was.
So along with Alavenia I’ll keep my fingers and toes crossed and hell, add my eyes!
I’m very excited about what I’ve read so far and I hope that it all pans out for Alex! Like Pinkiepie says, the original aired over 30 years ago, so it will be new to the majority of viewers. And what’s there NOT to like? Lots of action, a beautiful setting, hot guys and girls… And hopefully plenty of screen time for the amazing Alex. Bring it on, CBS!
With Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci involved and what I’ve read about the back story. This is going to be a huge success. A remake can be successful, especially 41 years after the premiere of the original series. It’s been off the air for 30 years! Who’s going to compare it? For the majority of viewers, it will be a brand new series. Krutzman and Orci did a fantastic job with Star Trek and Fringe.
I think Alex will shine as this rough around the edges state cop. A perfect role for him.
The great thing is that the show is not really a true remake, since he’s not playing Jack Lord’s actual character, but a family member, and the technology of the 70s has advanced so much it’ll seem Star Trek compared to the original. Alex will put his own personal stamp on his character; Jack Lord was one of a kind, just like Alex himself is. But man, ya got car chases, shoot ‘em ups, murder, vice…and don’t forget Hawaii, incredible scenery….yes, I am thinking about him when I say that….passion, romance….what’s there not to like!?
That show ran 12 years. It was the longest running show in TV history until Law & Order. Sooooo….some potential there, I think. Keep the general premise, let Alex polish it his way, and put it in a decent time slot. Perhaps the third time is the charm.

I want Alex to be successful. CBS needs to give his new show, whatever it is, a good time slot, good scripts, and good supporting actors. He can’t carry a show all by himself. They owe him, and his fans, BIG TIME!!!!! Hawaii or Criminal Minds, it doesn’t matter to me, as long as Alex gets a fair shot at success and more than one season to develop an audience.
Thank you MizzoH. I just logged on my computer. The first thing I read was about Alex O’Loughlin being eyed by CBS for Hawaii Five O, the continuation of the story lines from the original show’s Steve McGarrett. I hope this is not a rumor and that Alex will get to portray Steve McGarret’s son, Chris McGarrett. I’ve been quietly wishing and praying that Alex will get the leading role for Hawaii Five O. I’ve left several comments at these sites and believe that Alex will be brilliant and perfect for the Christ McGarrett, detective role, on Hawaii Five O, which is going to be a very long running and successful crime drama series, when heavily promoted by CBS. Alex deserves to be triumphant during 2010. Three times will be the charm for Alex this time. This is what happened to Simon Baker, a fellow Aussie on CBS. All my fingers and toes are crossed for Alex. Good luck and best wishes to a wonderful and the most deserving actor, Alex!
Iam afraid too Anita, most remakes don’t do well. I was hoping for the Criminal minds script. CBS need to promote Alex in whatever he does. praying third time is the charm!!! I will support Alex in whatever he does!!!
If Alex says yes to this, then this will be the remake that triumphs. CBS needs to make sure that our guy gets a good time slot this time ;-)! Fingers crossed we’ll hear more soon, al…
Yes, fingers and toes crossed!!!
I don’t know how I feel about, I can’t wait to have Alex back on TV but after you read about all the remakes that failed I am a little scared!
