Well, it looks like Alex O’Loughlin is definitely back at last! After posting his first new message on his blog since October and changing his MySpace background, then changing it right back again a couple of days later, as well as finally adding his biography, new music, new comments and friends — all of which, by the way, had us fans in a frenzy as this surely meant an Impending Announcement of Some Kind — there is now news of a guest appearance on a CBS show. The speculation about the NCIS spin-off seems to have fizzled out as other actors are said to have been slated to play leading roles and Alex was not among them.
If you know that Alex has been working closely with Simon Mirren, who is the head writer of Criminal Minds, it won’t come as a complete surprise to you that his first television show appearance since CBS canceled Moonlight last May will be in an episode of this hit show about the cases of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU). Those of us who love Alex in a bad guy role (think Michael Carter in FEED and his role in the upcoming feature Whiteout) will be especially pleased to hear that he will be playing a serial killer. The episode is expected to air late April 2009.
The sources of these good tidings are Michael Ausiello at EW and Matt Mitovich at TV Guide. The latter says that there is still no further news of Alex O’Loughlin taking the helm in a new show of his own.
