Over three weeks of impatient waiting and endless speculation have finally been rewarded. Alex O’Loughlin says yes to playing the legendary Steve McGarrett in CBS’s Hawaii Five-0 remake!
After reporting that Daniel Dae Kim was cast in the role of Detective Chin Ho Kelly earlier this week, The Hollywood Reporter now confirms that Alex has finalized his new deal with the network that raised his profile significantly with Moonlight and followed that up with Three Rivers.
According to The Honolulu Star Bulletin, the pilot will be filmed entirely in the state capital on Oahu and shooting commences mid March.
No further information has surfaced addressing the possibility that CBS has already agreed to a full season of Hawaii Five-0, as a casting blog recently wrote. We will have to go through the agony of waiting until the upfronts in May for pickup confirmation, but it’s highly unlikely that CBS will overlook one of their ‘family’ favorites when it’s time to pick and choose shows for the 2010-2011 season.
As making movies is a significant aspect of his career, fans are looking forward to hearing which CBS Films project their Aussie star will tackle next. But first up is a personal blog from the man himself.

thanks Mizz, I am so glad we know what Alex is doing! To us it seemed a long time before we heard anything but in truth he only finished up the last, yet un-aired, episodes of TR in late December, then finally had some time off to spend with family and friends. With the promotion and release of TBUP and now the pilot and series of Hawaii 5-0 he will once again be very busy. I am so thrilled he will once again be on tv weekly for us in a new hit series. Alex so deserves it!
