Alex O’Loughlin: “Sleep is Good but I’ll Sleep when I’m Dead”
Alex O’Loughlin gave TV Guide Magazine a lengthy interview on the Three Rivers set recently and opened up about the past, the present and the future.
He revealed that he tried out for the part of True Blood’s Bill Compton, that he’s into healthy cooking and confirmed that motorcycles are his most dangerous vice. He also talks about preparing for Three Rivers, working with Jennifer Lopez on The Back-Up Plan (“All the bull you hear… She was just a pro and rad to work with”) and the skills he picked up prior to becoming a full-time actor.
“I’m more like one of those jack-of-all-trades, master of nothing.”
On the subject of a possible Moonlight movie, Alex says, “It would take a lot to pull that off, to get everyone back together but it would be cool.”
His dream holiday would take place in Europe, “eat some great cheese, smoke some great cigars, go to the theater then go on a yacht and sail somewhere else”.

I loved this article so much I printed it out. I cannot believe that he tried out for the role of Bill in True Blood – Alex puts that guy who got the part to shame! If Alex HAD gotten that part, he would still be on the air – but on HBO – and we would never have had Mick St. John, even though we had him for such a short time and had to mourn the loss of Moonlight. It’s weird to think about.
I love Bianca’s comment, and agree with every word. Alex IS a master of his chosen trade – absolutely brilliant – but I always love hearing about other jobs he had along the way. Can you imagine him working away, frying chicken at KFC? Alex is a one of a kind, and I am so happy to have been able to enjoy his work and look forward to all that he does in the future. I knew when I first saw Alex’s pic in the TV Guide, the ad for the premiere of ML – that he was a star. Yes, Bianca – perfect…
Thanks MizzoH for this fascinating article and interview on Alex. I do believe that Alex is a gentleman and a very humble and charming man who does not have a big head, even when he wins the Emmy and an Oscar in the near future. Alex will be well known after the release/premiere of The Back-Up Plan, Whiteout and Three Rivers.
He is such a humble man! His “I’m more like one of those jack-of-all-trades, master of nothing,” is simply not true. He is a superb actor and I am sure that he is just as good in so many other areas!
I was surprised that he tried out for True Blood, but I am flabbergasted that he did not get either part (vampire Bill or Eric). Then again, Mick St.John would not have captured our hearts as he did with Alex in this role.
What can I say? He is just perfect in every way and we are the lucky ones to have known him in the earlier stages of an outstanding career.
