Take a quick break from The Back-up Plan activities for a moment and revisit Alex O’Loughlin’s stint on Criminal Minds with an Ed Bernero interview! The Minds’ executive producer sat down with iFMagazine for a chat recently and Alex made a guest appearance during the meeting.
iF: Did you enjoy being on CRIMINAL MINDS?
ALEX O’LOUGHLIN: I totally underestimated my own creepiness. On the E-Trade ad, they totally underestimated the creepiness of Bobo the Clown. Thank you for helping me tap into it.
[Writer's Note: O’Loughlin courteously takes his leave.]
BERNERO: [re: O’Loughlin] He’s so nice.
iF: Were you a fan of O’Loughlin on his CBS vampire series MOONLIGHT?
BERNERO: I was a huge fan of MOONLIGHT – I actually met him through development and developing other things. It was actually Simon Mirren who wrote the part for him. [Mirren] thought [O’Loughlin] would be so great for CRIMINAL MINDS. You like to take people you wouldn’t think of as killers, who look like everyday people, because that’s what these serial killers are, they’re the last person you would expect to kill someone. So someone like Alex is perfect for us, because you look at him and go, “Oh, that’s a beautiful guy, there’s no way he could hurt anybody,” and then make him as depraved as possible. It always works.

Thank you Mizz. Alex was excellent as Vincent on Criminal Minds.
I really was anticipating Mr. O playing a serial killer but it turned out that by the end of the show I was feeling sympathetic towards his character, despite his evil deeds. He was shocking how convincing he was playing such a creep…but Loved him anyway! Thanks mizz for the peek at those comments and for Mr O’s snarky comment about the E-trade clown…he is right on about the clown. Enjoy the rest of your week…you should be exhausted from all the activities of our beloved fella. He HAS been a very busy guy!!!
He was great in that part. I can’t think of any other actor I’ve ever seen who could have pulled that off with so few lines. His facial expressions and body language are so expressive it’s unbelievable.
Go Alex!!
He was great as Vincent wasn’t he? It’s roles like that which make clear he isn’t just a pretty face but an extremely talented actor with great range. The creepy factor was way up there, for sure!
I agree Mizz.. When I first heard Alex was playing a creepy killer in a guest role on Criminal Minds I was intrigued as to whether he would be believable to me. Well he was and I thought his performance was stunning!
